“You were more marvelous in your simple wish to find a way
than the gilded roofs of any destination you could reach.”
David Whyte
Who’s this for?
I’m writing for the kids I don’t have and the cat who doesn’t need it.
It’s about the moment no one’s coming — and you get to choose who you are.
I’m writing for the people who are scared and do it anyway.
Is this only about skiing?
No.
Sometimes it starts there, but it rarely ends there.
Who I am:
I am Johanna “Hanni” Steppan, I am based in Austria and I have spent a lifetime working as a ski instructor, ski patroller and working in the film industry. Skiing is my passport to the world, from Austria to Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, France, Andorra, Chile, Argentina, US, Canada, Japan and back.
The mountains have always been my tether to sanity, peace and energy. They are the one constant that’s steadily there, through every rupture and repair that life offers. I’m also a screenwriter, cat owner, a middle child, a girlfriend, a traveller and a lover of Japanese food.
